The AirBnB Phenomenon

Abstract:

This Bachelor’s dissertation deals with the study of Airbnb as a phenomenon of shared economy in Czech and Slovak republic. This dissertation has character of both theoretical and practical research of this branch of economy. To understand this phenomenon, it is important to define the position of shared economy as part of tourism. Therefore, the first part of the dissertation is dedicated to in-depth definition of basic concepts within both tourism and shared economy. Furthermore, through a brief summary of the historical and political conditions of tourism in the past, we will focus on the importance of digital platforms nowadays and also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a shared economy. This part also incorporates the analysis of the largest internet platform used for accommodation, which is the Airbnb. The practical part of the dissertation is dedicated to research of the importance and use of Airbnb platform in Czech and Slovak republic. The research is focused on overall operation processes and offer of this digital platform and comparison of the use of Airbnb in these two countries. This part also focuses on mapping the use of platform Airbnb in both countries, on how large is the influence of Airbnb phenomenon on market in both countries and how we can ensure its smooth operation and expansion in the future.

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca sa zaoberá výskumom platformy Airbnb ako fenoménu zdieľaného ubytovania na území Českej a Slovenskej republiky. Práca má charakter nielen teoretického ale i praktického spracovania tohto odvetvia ekonomiky. Pre pochopenie tohto fenoménu je nevyhnutné vymedzenie postavenia zdieľanej ekonomiky v rámci cestovného ruchu. V prvej časti práce sa preto venujeme definovaniu základných pojmov tak cestovného ruchu ako aj zdieľanej ekonomiky. Ďalej sa prostredníctvom zhrnutia historicko-politických podmienok cestovného ruchu v minulosti, sústredíme na význam internetových platforiem v súčasnej dobe a taktiež rozoberieme výhody a nevýhody zdieľanej ekonomiky. Následne sa budeme zaoberať analýzou najväčšej internetovej platformy slúžiacej na ubytovanie, ktorou je práve platforma Airbnb. Praktickú časť našej práce venujeme skúmaniu významu a využitia platformy Airbnb na území Českej a Slovenskej republiky. Výskum sa zameria na celkové fungovanie a ponuku platformy, ako aj na komparáciu využitia platformy v týchto dvoch krajinách. Táto časť zahŕňa zmapovanie využitia platformy Airbnb v oboch krajinách, ako celkovo ovplyvňuje fenomén Airbnb trh v oboch krajinách a ako možno zabezpečiť jeho plynulé fungovanie a rast do budúcnosti.
