Gallery Presentation of Street Art Paradoxes

Abstract:

Street art, který vzniká původně jako nelegální umělecká intervence do veřejného prostoru, se pro svou atraktivitu dostává do povědomí široké veřejnosti a stále více se dostává do prostředí galerií a dalších soukromých prostor. Street art se stává obchodovatelným a měřitelným z hlediska cen, které se platí za díla známých autorů. Současně se vymaňuje ze své aktivistické a subverzivní pozice a stává se formalizovaným prostředkem marketingu i politické reprezentace. Bakalářská práce se zabývá střetem pouličního umění, tedy street artu, primárně určeného do prostoru ulice a sloužícího často ke kritice společnosti s prostorem galerie a to nejen z pohledu autorů samotných realizací, ale také z hlediska kurátorského i recepčního. Práce poukazuje na paradoxy, které tato problematika přináší. Zaměřuje se především na situaci v České republice a bude ji ilustrovat na uplynulých výstavách za posledních cca deset let. Cílem práce je objasnit, jaký vliv má na street art jeho vystavování v oficiálních galerijních institucích a jiná komercializace.

Abstract:

Street art which originally arises as an illegal artistic intervention into public space is getting into the public awareness for its attractiveness and is increasingly getting to the enviroment of galleries and other private spaces. Street art is becoming marketable and measurable in terms of price to be paid for the works of famous authors. At the same time it extricates itself from its activist(ic) and subversive position and becomes a formalized means of marketing and political representation. This bachelor thesis deals with the clash of street art, art primarily intended for the street and often serving to criticize the society, with the space of gallery and not only from the authors‘ perspective, but also in curatorial and galleryite terms of view. The thesis highlights the paradoxes that this issue brings. It is focused mainly on the situation in the Czech Republic and it will illustrate the situation by the exhibitions held during about last ten years. The aim is to clarify what effect does exhibiting in official galleries and other commercialization have on street art.
