Czech animated film and its current position in film industry

Abstract:

Obsah této práce je věnován animovanému filmu. Práce se zaměřuje na animovaný film českých tvůrců a staví do kontrastu zlatou éru české animace a její současnou strádající tvář. Cílem práce je nastínit příčiny jejího propadu, který v posledních desetiletích zaznamenává, a analyzovat současnou situaci v této umělecké disciplíně. Teorie je v práci konfrontována s názory animátorů a lektorů animace. Kýženým závěrem je poté odhalení směrů, kterými se český animovaný film ubírá, a odhad jeho budoucího vývoje. Teoretická část práce se zabývá nejprve vymezením pojmu animace, a to prostřednictvím myšlenek a názorů hlavních teoretiků i tvůrců v oboru. Nutnou součástí je uvedení historického minima jako zásadního kroku k pochopení současné pozice české animované tvorby v kontextu světového vývoje. Animovaný film je dále definován specifiky, který vykazuje ve všech článcích distribučního řetězce a ve filmovém průmyslu vůbec. Praktická část se věnuje možnostem seznámení se s animovaným filmem, vzdělávání se v této oblasti a vůbec zvyšování povědomí o existenci české animace. Mapuje současnou iniciativu nadšenců i oficiálních institucí a sleduje způsoby jejich snahy. Závěr práce je věnován aktuálním trendům a ovlivňujícím faktorům, na jejichž základě je odhadován budoucí vývoj oboru. To vše reflektuje aktuální situaci a podává odpověď na otázku, zda je vůbec ještě možné navázat na zlatý věk a pozitivně ho v dnešní době využít.

Abstract:

The present bachelor's thesis is dedicated to the field of film animation. The work focuses on animated films created by Czech authors and assesses the golden age of czech animation compared to its deteriorative contemporary state. The aim of the thesis is to reveal causes of its decline observed during a few last decades and to analyse current situation in this artistic field. Theory is confronted with oppinions of animators and animation instructors as well. Desired conclusion would be detection of ongoing trends and estimation of its future development. The theoretical part deals with defining the term "animation" according to ideas and views of the major theoreticians as well as of animation creators. Minimum of historical summary is necessary to gain the right insight into the situation of Czech animation in the context of world development. Animated film is then defined by its specific features noticeable in all the levels of the distribution chain and film industry itself. Practical part concentrates on the possibilities of education and increasing awareness of animation in the Czech Republic. It analyses the efforts of enthusiasts as well as official institutions in their work with animation. Final part involves current trends and other factors affecting future development of the field. All together it reflects contemporary Czech situation and shows whether it is still possible to continue from where the golden age was interrupted.
