Analysis of ethological observation of small ruminants

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá studiem analýzy etologického pozorování ovce a kozy kamerunské. Úvod obsahuje informace o vědním oboru-etologii. Je zde popsán vývoj a vznik etologie, následuje rozdělení etologie a popis možných metod výzkumu chování. Metody výzkumu popisují přímé a nepřímé pozorování, komplexní etologický režim. V další části se práce zabývá významem chovu ovcí a koz a životními projevy, sociologií, sexuálním chováním obou druhů, a také péčí o mláďata. Hlavní část bakalářské práce se zabývá charakteristikou obou druhů, reprodukcí, a etologickým pozorováním vybraných životních projevů. Tento výzkum trval 30 hodin, zápis probíhal v 15timinutových intervalech. V etogramu byly uvedeny tyto projevy chování: pastva či sání mléka mláďat, pití vody, průzkum okolí, kálení/močení, relaxování a hra mláďat. Výsledky výzkumu prokázaly, že ovce kamerunské jsou klidnější než kozy kamerunské. Kozy trávily většinu dne pozorováním a průzkumem svého okolí. Pastva probíhala více u ovcí než u koz.

Abstract:

This thesis studies the analysis of the ethological observation of sheep and pygmy goats. The introduction gives information about ethology as a field of science. In this part the work describes the development and origin of ethology, and then follows up with subdisciplines and the possible methods of studying behaviour. The methods of research describe direct and indirect observation: a complex ethological schedule. In the next part the work focuses on the meaning of the keeping of sheep and goats, and their behavioural patterns, their sociology, the sexual life of both species, and the way they care for their young. In the main body, my thesis discloses the characteristics of both species, their reproduction, and the ethological observation of chosen behavioural patterns. This research took 30 hours divided into 15-minute intervals. The ethogram contains the following behavioural patterns: feeding and consumption of milk, area investigation, defecation, relaxation and the lambs’ playtime. Research results have shown that cameroon sheep are calmer than pygmy goats. The goats spent most of their day observing and exploring their surroundings. Feeding was more frequent with sheep than it was with goats.
