Aquaponic systems: history of creation, their importance within the European Union and analysis of their development in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Jedním ze zásadních problémů pro lidstvo ve 21. století je exponenciální populační růst (zejména v rozvojových regionech světa) a s ním spojená rostoucí poptávka po produkci potravin, konzumní typ společnosti ve vyspělých regionech a v neposlední řadě degradace zemědělské půdy. Z výše zmíněných důvodů bude tato práce zkoumat a hodnotit akvakulturní systémy se zaměřením na podoblast akvaponie. Ta je alternující možností produkce potravin, kterou lidstvo již zná, využívá a není k tomuto způsobu pěstování potřebná úrodná zemědělská půda. Jde o koncepci, která je velmi mladým oborem i na území Evropského kontinentu. V této diplomové práci bylo zkoumáno, jak si akvaponie stojí v EU. Bylo zjištěno, že z důvodu kombinace živočišné a rostlinné produkce dodnes nemá jasně ukotvenou legislativní oporu. Je nutné pokročit ve výzkumu technologií, aby byla produkce dostupnější a aplikovatelná pro všechny. Na technologie jsou navázány další kroky potřebné pro standardizaci a normalizační ucelené pokyny na území EU.

Abstract:

One of the fundamental problems facing humanity in the 21st century is humanity itself. More precisely, it is about exponential population growth (especially in the developing regions of the world), the associated growing demand for food production, the consumer society in developed regions and, last but not least, the degradation of agricultural areas. For these mentioned reasons, this work will investigate and evaluate aquaculture systems, with a focus on the aquaponics subfield, as one of the alternative options for food production, which mankind already knows and uses, and fertile agricultural land is not needed for this method of cultivation. It is a concept that is a very young field, therefore this area was chosen for analysis and specifically on the territory of the European continent. In this diploma thesis, the status of aquaponics in the EU was investigated. It was found that, due to the combination of animal and plant production, it still does not have a clearly anchored legislative support. It is necessary to advance the research of technologies to make the production more accessible and applicable for all. Additional steps necessary for standardization and comprehensive standardization guidelines in the EU are linked to the technologies.
