Self-recognition on the stage of history (An interpretation of selected historical novels of Jiří Šotola)

Abstract:

Před-porozumění autora práce vyjevilo Šotolovy romány jako onen typ umělecké prózy, jejímž tématem jsou filosofické otázky. To se stalo hlavním předmětem zkoumání za užití specifické hermeneutické metody vycházející z myšlenek existencialistické hermeneutiky a neopragmatismu. Práce je pojata jako strukturované vysvětlení syntézy rozumění. První kapitola seznamuje s Šotolovou publicistikou 60. let, které můžeme přikládat význam pro tvorbu před-porozumění a při dodatečné korektuře rozumění Šotolovým uměleckým prózám. Další kapitoly postupně interpretují Šotolovy první tři romány: Tovaryšstvo Ježíšovo, Kuře na rožni a Svatý na mostě. V celkovém hodnocení práce představuje Šotolovy prózy jako bojiště, na kterém se střetávají dva trendy evropského myšlení. Na jedné straně upřednostňovaný antropologický koncept autonomního individua, který autor práce vztahuje k filosofiím tzv. existencialismu (S. Kierkegaard, K. Jaspers, M. Heidegger, G. Marcel, J. Sartre, A. Camus ad.), na druhé straně zavrhovaný koncept sociálně a historicky determinovaného individua, který autor práce vztahuje především k filosofiím G. Hegela, A. Comta a K. Marxe.

Abstract:

Pre-understanding of the author revealed Šotola's prosaic works as a kind of fiction putting philosophical questions. That became the main subject of research using specific hermeneutic method based on the ideas of existentialist hermeneutics and neopragmatism. The dissertation offers the structured explanation of the synthesis of understanding. The first chapter introduces Šotola's journalism of the sixties which was important for the formation of pre-understanding and additional proofreading understanding of Šotola's fiction. Other chapters gradually interpret Šotola's three novels: The Society of Jesus, The Chicken on a Turnspit and The Saint on the Bridge. As for the general evaluation, the dissertation presents Šotola's prosaic works as a battlefield where two trends of European way of thinking clash. On the one hand there is an anthropologic concept of an autonomous individual, which the author of the dissertation relates to philosophies of so called existentialism (Kierkegaard, Jaspers, Heidegger, Marcel, Sartre, Camus etc.), on the other hand there is a concept of socially and historically determined individual, which the author of the dissertation relates mainly to the philosophies of Hegel, Comte and Marx.
