Centre of Midwifery, a new concept of care in midwifery in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Práce se věnuje nově vznikajícím Centrům porodní asistence (CPA) v České republice. V teoretické části práce je popsán koncept porodních center a jejich historický kontext a rozvoj ve světě. Podrobněji je rozebrána definice a základní znaky porodních center. V průzkumné části práce je na základě studia dokumentů a polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s informantkami ze třech porodnic s nejdéle fungujícím Centrem porodní asistence v ČR podrobněji popsán koncept CPA, tak jak je uplatňován v těchto porodnicích. Koncept CPA je potom srovnán s definičními znaky porodních center, které byly identifikovány v teoretické části práce. V průzkumné části práce byly využity především kvalitativní metody sběru a zpracování dat, analýza psaných dokumentů a tematická analýza dat získaných z polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Výsledky byly doplněny o statistická data o poskytované porodní péči ve zkoumaných porodnicích.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the newly emerging Centres of Midwifery (CPA, abbreviated in Czech) in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the concept of Birth Centres (Midwifery Units) and their historical context and development in the World. The definition and basic features of Birth Centres (Midwifery Units) are discussed in detail. In the research part of the thesis, based on the study of documents and semi-structured interviews with informants from the three Maternity Hospitals with the longest operating Centres of Midwifery in the Czech Republic, the concept of CPA as applied in these maternity hospitals is described in more detail. The CPA concept is then compared with the defining features of Birth Centres (Midwifery Units) identified in the theoretical part of the thesis. The research part of the thesis used qualitative methods of data collection and processing, analysis of written documents and thematic analysis of data obtained from semi-structured interviews. The results were supplemented with statistical data on the Maternity Care provided in the studied Maternity Hospitals.
