Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá přístupem Spojených států amerických ve vytváření zahraniční politiky se zaměřením na Blízký východ, konkrétně na Irák a Egypt. Poslední dvě americké vlády, Bushova a Obamova byly vybrány k poskytnutí hlavního studijního materiálu , tj. oficiálních vládních prohlášení. Studie je primárně zaměřena na analýzu jazyka a diskurzu a jeho použití. Zkoumá sémantické a jazykové koncepty, tj. jak je jazyk používán k vytvoření silného a vlivného diskurzu. Doplňující otázkou této práce je, zda existuje konzistentní a selektivní použití jazyka a diskurzu v zahraniční politice USA ve vztahu ke zkoumaným zemím.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the United States’ approach in making foreign policy decisions with reference to the Middle East, more specifically with focus on the countries of Iraq and Egypt. The two most recent American administrations, those of Bush and Obama were chosen to provide the corpus material, i.e. official proclamations for the study. The study is primary focused on the analysis of language and the discourse and its application. It looks into the semantic and linguistic concepts, i.e. how the language is used in order to create powerful and influential discourse. An additional analysis question of the thesis is whether there is a consistent and selective employment of U.S. foreign policy discourse for the countries in question.
