Comparison of gender aspects in selected fairy tales from brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce o rozsahu 84 030 znaků pojednává o rozdílech vybraných genderových kategorií mezi pohádkami od Hanse Christiana Andersena a bratří Grimmů. Cílem práce je porovnat genderové rozdíly mezi dvěma různými typy pohádek – autorských od Hanse Christiana Andersena a tradičních od bratří Grimmů. V teoretické části práce se vyskytuje srovnání proudů biologického determinismu a sociálního konstruktivismu, definice autorských a tradičních pohádek, témata feministické kritiky genderových stereotypů v pohádkách, či socializační vliv pohádek na výchovu dětí. V praktické části je pomocí komparativní hermeneutické analýzy porovnáván gender ve třech nejznámějších pohádkách od každého z vybraných autorů na základě vybraných analytických genderových kategorií. Pomocí tohoto srovnání se práce pokouší najít odpověď na výzkumné otázky, jestli se gender v pohádkách liší, jakým způsobem, co tyto rozdíly vypovídají o vybraných žánrech pohádek a jakým způsobem se gender reprodukuje v závislosti na vybraných typech pohádek. Práce spěje ke zjištění, že autorské pohádky jako specifický žánr v tomto případě mají více tendenci k nabourávání genderových stereotypů, gender je zde více komplikovaný, než v pohádkách tradičních, které jsou více genderově stereotypní a gender je spíše přímočarý.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis having a range of 12 650 words deals with the differences between selected gender categories of fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm topics. The aim of the study is to compare gender differences between two different types of tales – authorial tales by Hans Christian Andersen and the traditional ones by Brothers Grimm. In the theoretical part, we can find comparison of biological determinism and social constructivism, the definition of authorial and traditional tales, the feminist critique of gender stereotypes in fairy tales, or fairy tales socialization influence on the education of children. In the practical part, there is hermeneutic comparative analysis used for a gender comparison in three most popular fairy tales from each of the selected authors, based on selected analytical gender categories. The bachelor thesis tries to answer the research questions whether and how gender differs in fairy tales, what these differences tell us about the selected genres of fairy tales and how gender is reproduced depending on the selected types of fairy tales. This work is coming to findings that in this case, the authorial fairy tales, as a specific genre, have rather tendency to break gender stereotypes, gender is more complicated here than in traditional fairy tales which are more gender-stereotyped, and gender here is more straightforward.
