Motive of the Youth in the Czech Early Medieval Legends

Abstract:

Téma této diplomové práce je zaměřeno na motiv mládí, se kterým pracujeme na základě materiálové báze 17 legend. Tyto legendy rozdělujeme do tří okruhů, a to na okruh cyrilometodějský, václavsko-ludmilský a vojtěšský. Cílem této práce je zjistit výskyt motivu mládí v okruhu již zmíněných legend, jejich jazykové rozdělení, rozsah motivu mládí, zjištění shodnosti či podobnosti motivu mládí, tj. zda se jedná o legendu originální či překladovou.

Abstract:

The main theme of this diploma thesis is focused on the literary motif of youth and how to work with it based on the material base of 17 bohemian historical legends. These legends are divided into three areas: legend of saints Cyril and Methodius, legend of Wenceslaus I, legend of the Duke of Bohemia and his wife Ludmila of Bohemia, and finally the legend of St. Adalbert of Prague. Main goal of this paper is to research the motif of youth within previously mentioned legends and to analyse their language division, to what extent we can find the motif of youth inside these works and in what way are the motifs similar to each other, in other words: to find out if a legend is considered to be an original one, or translated.
