Abstract:

Cílem této práce bylo provést diskurzivní analýzu politických projevů amerického prezidenta Joea Bidena na téma ruské invaze na Ukrajině. První projev byl pronesen 26. února 2022 v Polsku a druhý 12. července 2023 v Litvě. Práce se zaměřila na analýzu Bidenovy volby specifických jazykových prostředků, které mu umožnily nejen prezentovat se jako důvěryhodný, kompetentní vůdce, ale také ho podpořily v překlenutí propasti mezi posluchačem a mluvčím. Základem pro strukturu a postup analýzy byla metodologie kritické analýzy diskurzu Normana Fairclougha. Bidenovi se podařilo emocionálně navázat kontakt s posluchači prostřednictvím neustálého zdůrazňování tří nejvýznamnějších, všudypřítomných hodnot v jeho projevu - jsou jimi jednota, víra a naděje. Ty byly podstatou obou jeho projevů a z Bidenova pohledu byly rozhodujícím faktorem, pokud jde o výsledky války a jejich dopad na budoucnost. Ukázalo se, že Biden svými rétorickými schopnostmi přesáhnul svou roli prezidenta Spojených států. Byl a stále je vůdcem, spojencem a, což je to nejcennější, co pro všechny své spojence představuje, přítelem. Bylo zjištěno, že Biden je velkou inspirací a záchrannou sítí, kterou lidé na Ukrajině potřebují.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis was to provide a discourse analysis of political speeches by the American president Joe Biden on the topic of Russian invasion in Ukraine. The first speech was given in Poland on the 26th February, 2022 and the second one in Lithuania on the 12th July, 2023. The paper focused on the analysis of Biden's choice of the specific linguistic devices, which allowed him not only to present himself as a trustworthy, competent leader, but they also supported him in bridging the gap between the listener and speaker. Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis methodology was the basis for the structure and procedure of the analysis. Biden managed to emotionally connect with his audience via continuous emphasising of the three most significant values omnipresent in his speech - those were unity, faith and hope. These were the essence of both of his speeches and, in Biden's point of view, they were the decisive factor, when it came to the results of the war in the future. It was displayed, by means of Biden's rhetorical skills, that he transcended his role of the president of the United States. He was and still is a leader, ally and, the most valuable he represents for all of his allies role, friend. It was established that Biden was a great inspiration and a safety net the people of Ukraine needed.
