The purpose of this thesis is to accomplish a comparative analysis of French and English translation of Saturnin, the novel by Zdeněk Jirotka. The first part of the thesis deals with seven basic translation methods defined by Vinay and Darbelnet, which are illustrated on the examples from the novel. Cílem této diplomové práce je provést komparativní analýzu francouzského a anglického překladu Saturnina, románu Zdeňka Jirotky. V práci je nejprve prezentováno sedm základních překladatelských postupů podle metodiky Vinaye a Darbelneta, které jsou doplněny o příklady z románu.
