Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá kanadskými filmy, které se věnují problémům sužující původní kanadské obyvatelstvo, známé také jako První národy, Inuité a Métisové, od dob kolonialismu severoamerického kontinentu. Práce využívá filmy Indian Horse, The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open a Rustic Oracle k provázaní jejich obsahu jak s kontextem historickým, tak i současným. Práce dále zkoumá roli kanadské vlády v procesu asimilace původních obyvatel, jehož následky dodnes pronásledují a také značně znevýhodňují tuto komunitu při jejich cestě za rovnoprávností a usmířením s euro-kanadskou společností.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis examines the struggles the Indigenous communities in Canada, also known as the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis, have faced since the beginning of colonialism through several Canadian films. The thesis uses the imagery of the Indian Horse, The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open, and Rustic Oracle in order to connect the problems depicted in the films with their historical and contemporary context. It explains the role of the Canadian government in the process of assimilation of the Indigenous communities, which influences the lives of the individual members on their way towards equality and reconciliation to this day.
