Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou gastronomických metafor v italském a anglickém jazyce. Hlavním předmětem této práce je poskytnutí náhledu do použití těchto metafor ve dvou různých jazycích a také nalezení hlavních rozdílů a podobností. Dále se tato práce zaměřuje na skutečnost, že gastronomické metafory mohou pomoci identifikovat určitou kulturu a jazyk, kterým lidé v daném kulturním prostředí hovoří. Výzkum je podpořen teoretickou částí práce, které se zaměřuje na význam metafor v jazyce a myšlení a také na pojem konceptuálních metafor. Dále zkoumá klíčová slova, která mají význam pro oba jazyky. V neposlední řadě se projednává význam metafor pro výuku a stadium cizích jazyků. Práce je rozdělena do čtyř hlavních částí. První kapitola se zabývá teoretickou studií metafor a metaforických konceptů. Další dvě kapitoly se soustředí na praktickou analýzu gastronomických metafor v anglickém a italském jazyce. Je zde identifikováno několik kategorií těchto metafor, jejichž účelem je nalézt hlavní druhy jídla, které slouží jako zdroj pro tyto metafory. Všechny dané metafory jsou podpořeny daty z anglického a italského jazykového korpusu. Poslední kapitola se soustředí na porovnání gastronomických metafor pro oba jazyky, což znamená, že je zkoumána četnost jejich používání spolu s analýzou metafor v rámci každého jazyka a také mezi oběma jazyky.

Abstract:

This master diploma thesis deals with analysis of food metaphors in Italian and English. The main subject of the thesis is to provide an insight into the use of those metaphors in two different languages and to find out the main distinctions as well as similarities. It also aims at the reality that food metaphors can identify a specific culture and language used by people from such cultural environment. The research is supported by the theoretical part which focuses on the importance of metaphors in language and thought and on the concept of conceptual metaphors. It also examines key words that are significant for both languages. Finally, the significance of metaphors in teaching and learning foreign language is discussed. The thesis is divided into four main parts. The first chapter deals with the theoretical study of metaphors and metaphorical concepts. Another two chapters are focused on the practical analyses of English and Italian food metaphors. Several categories of food metaphors are discussed in order to find the main types of food that serve as sources of metaphors. All metaphors are supported by the data from English and Italian corpora. The last chapter concentrates on the comparison of food metaphors in both languages, which means that the frequency of use is be discussed together with the analysis of the metaphors within each language as well as between both languages.
