Project team yield reporting and Data Governance in an information systems development company

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vytvořením řešení pro reporting výtěžnosti projektových týmů pomocí nástrojů Keboola a Tableau v reálné firmě. Hlavním cílem je doručit komplexní řešení, jež nahrazuje aktuální primárně manuální postupy. Toto nové řešení je v automatizované formě za podpory moderních nástrojů Business Inteligence. Přináší nejen vytvořené reporty výtěžnosti projektových týmů, ale také dává možnost pro další rozvoj datové platformy ve firmě, kde byla práce řešena. Součástí řešení je též Data Governance. K naplnění hlavního cíle byla zpracována rešerše literatury analyzující domény, které jsou klíčové pro řešení práce. Dále byly vybrány a stanoveny metodiky, dle kterých jsou práce a řešení zpracovány (například: Business canvas, Kimball multidimenzionální modelování, Tableau & Keboola best practices apod). První částí je analýza současného stavu procesu ve firmě. Na popis navazovalo vytvoření business zadání a návrh architektury celého řešení. Analýza stavu Data Governance mapuje aktuální stav řízení dat ve firmě. V návaznosti na analýzu byla vytvořena rešerše Data Governance frameworků a podle získaných poznatků byl vybrán framework pro realizaci. Samotná realizace je popsána ve třech částech – realizace datové integrace a vytvoření multidimenzionálního modelu, realizace řešení v prostředí Tableau (vizualizace, přístupy k datům, sdílení) a implementace Data Governance. Samotný závěr práce tvoří ověření návrhu a realizace řešení.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the creation of a solution for the reporting yield of project teams using Keboola and Tableau tools in company. The main objective is to deliver a comprehensive solution that replaces the current manual setup. This new solution is in an automated form with the support of modern Business Intelligence tools. It not only delivers the generated yield reports to the project teams, but also gives the opportunity for further development of the data platform in the company where the work was solved.Data Governance is part of the solution too. In order to fulfill the main objective, a literature search was done analyzing the domains that are key to the solution of the thesis. Furthermore, the methodologies according to which the thesis and the solution are developed were selected and described (for example: Business canvas, Kimball multidimension modeling, Tableau & Keboola best practices and so on). The first part was the analysis of the current state of the process in the company. The description was followed by the creation of a business brief and a design of the target solution architecture. The Data Governance status analysis maps the current state of data governance in the company. Following the analysis, a search of Data Governance frameworks was created and according to the obtained knowledge a framework for implementation was selected. The implementation itself is described in three parts – implementation of data integration and creation of a multidimensional model, implementation of the solution in Tableau environment (visualization, data access, sharing) and implementation of Data Governance. The actual conclusion of the thesis consist of the design validation and implementation of the solution.
