Syfilis je sexuálně přenosné onemocnění způsobené spirochétou Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum (dále jen T. pallidum). Přestože je syfilis popisována již od konce 15. století, původce onemocnění byl identifikován až na počátku 20. století. Abstract:
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by spirochete Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum (referred as T. pallidum). Even though syphilis is known since the end of 15th century, the causative agent was not identified until the beginning of 20th century.
