The specifics of intercultural communication of the second generation of Vietnamese in the Czech work environment

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je věnována identifikaci faktorů vedoucích k rozdílům v komunikaci mezi Vietnamci druhé generace a Čechů v českém pracovním prostředí v kontextu Hofstedeho kulturních dimenzí. Teoretická část je věnována popisu základních pojmů související s kulturou a komunikací, dále je v práci přiblížena historie Vietnamců v České republice. Praktická část je rozdělena na metodologii a vlastní výzkum. Data byla získaná kvalitativní metodou, konkrétně formou polostrukturovaných hloubkových rozhovorů, a následně byla data analyzována metodou IPA. Největší rozdíly v komunikaci byly pociťovány respondenty v (ne)asertivitě a způsobu řešení konfliktů. Práce poskytuje porozumění příčinám komunikačních rozdílů a hlubší vhled do zkušeností Vietnamců druhé generaci v českém pracovním prostředí, přičemž mapuje vliv rodinného zázemí na jejich chování.

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on identifying factors leading to communication differences between second-generation Vietnamese and Czechs in the Czech work environment, based on Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. The theoretical part describes key concepts related to culture and communication and also provides an overview of the history of Vietnamese people in the Czech Republic. The practical part is divided into methodology and research. Data were obtained using a qualitative method, specifically through semi-structured in-depth interviews, and were subsequently analyzed using the IPA method. The most significant communication differences perceived by respondents were in (non)assertiveness and conflict resolution styles. The thesis offers an understanding of the causes of these communication differences and provides deeper insight into the experiences of second-generation Vietnamese in the Czech work environment, while also mapping the influence of family background on their behavior.
