The relation between graphic design, credibility and usability of web pages

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce „Vztah mezi grafickým designem, důvěryhodností a použitelností webových stránek“ pojednává o problematice významu tvorby grafického designu webových stránek v procesu webdesignu a jeho vlivu na efektivitu (použitelnost a důvěryhodnost) webových stránek. Ukazuje, že tvorba grafického designu se stává – v důsledku rychlého rozvoje webových technologií a snaze o co největší uživatelskou přívětivost webových stránek – náročným komplexním procesem, ve kterém je, pro zachování rovnováhy mezi funkčností (použitelností) a formou (estetičností), třeba respektovat a vzájemně koordinovat technická omezení počítače s fyziologickými i psychickými (kognitivními i emocionálními) požadavky člověka. V práci jsou, na základě stručného přehledu výsledků relevantních výzkumů a analýzy historických i současných přístupů k tvorbě grafického designu webových stránek (a uživatel­ského rozhraní vůbec), shrnuty faktory, které by měly být při návrhu grafického designu uváženy, a ­funkce, které mohou (v rámci snahy o vytvoření použitelných a důvěryhodných webových stránek) zastávat jednotlivé atributy webové grafiky. Na základě získaných poznatků je provedena analýza a vizuální úprava konkrétní webové stránky (Ústřední knihovny FF MU) a účinnost této aplikace je ověřena kvantitativním výzkumem.

Abstract:

Bachelor’s thesis "The relation between graphic design, credibility and usability of web pages" deals with the problems of importance of graphic design of web pages in the process of webdesign and its influence on efficiency (usability and credibility) of web pages. The thesis indicates that the creation of the graphic design becomes – as a consequence of the rapid developement of web technologies and the effort of as user-friendly web sites as possible – demanding and complex process in which it is necessary, for the maintenance of the balance between the functionality (usability) and the form (tastefulness), to respect and coordinate technical restrictions of a computer with physiological and psychical (both cognitive and emotional) human needs. After the brief survey of outcomes of relevant studies and on the basis of the analysis of the historical and contemporary approaches to the creation of the graphic design of web pages (and the user interface in general) there are summarized the factors which should be considered during the projection of graphic design and the functions that can be held by the constituent elements of web graphics. On the basis of the acquired information the analysis and the visual modification of the particular web page (Central Library of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University) is carried out. Effectiveness of this application is verified by quantitative research.
