Abstract:

V této diplomové práci se věnujeme Gaussovým a Jacobiho sumám a některým jejich aplikacím v teorii čísel. První kapitola poskytuje nezbytný úvod do algebraické teorie čísel. Ve druhé kapitole zavádíme pojem multiplikativního charakteru na konečném tělese a přibližujeme Gaussovy a Jacobiho sumy a jejich vlastnosti. Třetí kapitola je pak věnována klasickému využití těchto sum ve vybraných důkazech kvadratické a kubické reciprocity. V poslední kapitole zobecňujeme některá předchozí tvrzení o Gaussových sumách pomocí Stickelbergerovy relace, jejímž důkazem je práce zakončena.

Abstract:

In this thesis we study Gauss and Jacobi sums and some of their applications in number theory. The first chapter provides a necessary introduction to algebraic number theory. In the second chapter, we introduce the concept of a multiplicative character on a finite field and discuss Gauss and Jacobi sums along with their properties. The third chapter is dedicated to the classical usage of these sums in selected proofs of quadratic and cubic reciprocity. In the final chapter, we generalize some of the previous statements about Gauss sums using Stickelberger's relation and concluding the thesis with its proof.
