Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome in Horses

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce řeší problematiku žaludečních vředů u koní. Nejprve je nastíněna morfologie trávícího traktu a fyziologie trávení se zaměřením na žaludek, kde je podrobněji rozebírána jak anatomie sliznice žaludku (žláznatá a nežláznatá část), tak složení a funkce žaludeční šťávy. Dále je popsáno onemocnění žaludečními vředy. Na základě nejnovějších poznatků je rozlišováno, která část žaludku je onemocněním postižena, jelikož to má vliv jak na vznik onemocnění, tak na jeho terapii. Žláznatá část je hůře dostupná a je pro to méně prozkoumána. Největší důraz klade tato práce na včasné rozpoznání žaludečních vředů. Pro zdraví koně je důležitý správný management denního režimu, kterým lze onemocnění předcházet, nebo zabraňovat jeho recidivám. Správný denní režim koně je definován především správnou dietou, množstvím krmiva a časovými intervaly, kdy je krmivo přijímáno, sportovním zatížením a pobytem na pastvě. V části o terapie je popsána klasická léčba a dále jsou řešeny i jiné alternativní možnosti.

Abstract:

This Bachelor thesis deals with a topic Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome. Initially, it outlines the morphology of the gastrointestinal tract and physiology of digestion with a focus on the stomach. There are examined in detail both the anatomy of the gastric mucosa (glandular and non-glandular parts) and the composition and function of gastric juice. Furthermore, gastric ulcer disease is described. Based on the latest findings, it is distinguished which part of the stomach is affected by the disease, as this affects both the onset of the disease and its therapy. The glandular part is less accessible and therefore less explored. This thesis emphasizes the importance of timely recognition of gastric ulcers. For the horse’s health is crucial proper management of the daily regimen. It can prevent the disease or prevent its recurrence. The correct daily regimen for a horse is primarily defined by proper diet, amount of feed, timing of feed intake, exercise load and pasture time. The section on therapy describes conventional treatment, as well as addressing other alternative options.
