Eruption of the Third Permanent Molar: Relationships with Life History

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřená na prořezávání třetích stoliček a jejich souvislosti se životní historií člověka. Třetí stoličky se prořezávají nejpozději z celého chrupu, často až v dospělosti, nemusí se však prořezat vůbec. Díky prořezávaní zubů můžeme posoudit tělesný vývoj jedince. Cílem této práce bylo zjistit pravděpodobnost prořezání třetích stoliček v závislosti na věku jedince, pohlaví jedince, pořadí narození jedince, věku matky při porodu a pořadí narození matky. Byla použita data z výzkumu vedoucího práce, který se konal v rámci projektu Technologické agentury ČR. Dle metody logistické regrese měl na pravděpodobnost prořezávání třetích stoliček významný vliv věk jedince. V případě všech čtyř stoliček pro věkovou kategorii >40 let byl podíl šancí prořezání významně vyšší než pro kategorii do 17 let. Pouze v případě pravé horní osmičky pro kategorii 18 až 40 let byl zjištěn mírně vyšší podíl šancí prořezání než pro kategorii do 17 let. Dále bylo zjištěno, že vyšší šanci na prořezání třetích stoliček mají ženy a že s rostoucím věkem matky při porodu klesá šance na prořezání třetích stoliček dítěte. Jedinci, kteří byli narozeni ve druhém a vyšším pořadí mají nižší šanci na prořezání než jedinci, kteří byli narozeni jako první v pořadí, naopak děti matek, které byly narozeny ve druhém a vyšším pořadí mají vyšší šanci na prořezání než děti matek, které byly narozeny jako první v pořadí.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the eruption of third molars and their relation to human life cycle. Third molars are the latest of the entire dentition to erupt, often in adulthood, while they may never erupt. Through the eruption of teeth, we can assess the physical development of an individual. The aim of this study was to determine the probability of the third molars erupting depending on the individual´s age, on the individual´s sex, on the individual´s order of birth, the age of the mother at delivery and the order of the mother´s birth. According to the logistic regression, the age of the individual significantly influenced the probability of third molar erupting. For all four molars for the age category over 40 years of age, the odds ratio of eruption was substantially higher than for the category below the age of 17. Only in the case of the right upper eighth molars the ratio of chance for eruption for the 18 to 40 age category was found to be slightly higher than the one for the under 17 age category. It was also found that females had a higher chance of third molar eruption and that the chance of children of third molar eruption. Furthermore, the older was a mother of a child when giving birth, the lower are the chances that in this child the third molars would erupt. Individuals who were second born or later have a lower chance of eruption than individuals who were first born. On the contrary, children of mothers who were born second or later have a higher chance of eruption than children of mothers who were first born.
