Stress, burnout and job satisfaction among nurses - review study

Abstract:

Cílem přehledové diplomové práce bylo analyzovat, porovnat a zjistit vzájemný vztah u vybraných relevantních studií zaměřených na problematiku stresu, vyhoření a pracovní spokojenosti sester. Studie byly vyhledány systematickou rešeršní strategií za užití elektronických databází Academic Search Complete (EBSCO), Bibliographia Medica Čechoslovaca, CINAHL, Medline, ScienceDirect a Wiley Library Online pomocí předdefinovaných kritérií. Extrakce, analýza a syntéza dat proběhla na základě stanovených výzkumných otázek v PICO formátu. Práce upozorňuje na zátěžové faktory, které působí při výkonu povolání sestry a snaží se specifikovat nejrizikovější oblasti, které determinují výskyt stresu, vyhoření a pracovní nespokojenosti. Těžištěm byl výběr dokumentů za pomocí diagramu třídění, jehož prostřednictvím byly sumarizovány výsledky předkládané problematiky. Bylo zjištěno, že prediktory stresu, syndromu vyhoření a pracovní spokojenosti se navzájem prolínají a ovlivňují. Zároveň bylo potvrzeno, že je-li riziko pracovního stresu sníženo na minimum, nevyskytuje se v takové míře syndrom vyhoření a sestry bývají častěji spokojeny se svou prací. Výsledky přehledové práce lze dobře využít v oblasti prevence profesionální zátěže u sester, a také k pochopení kauzality těchto vztahů při porovnávání nových výsledků s uceleným přehledem dosavadní dostupné literatury.

Abstract:

The aim of the overview thesis was to analyse, compare and determine the correlation of selected relevant studies focused on the issue of stress, burnout and job satisfaction of nurses. The studies were searched by means of the systematic retrieval strategies when using of electronic databases Academic Search Complete (EBSCO) Bibliographia Čechoslovaca Medica, CINAHL, Medline, ScienceDirect and Wiley Online Library using the predefined criteria. The extraction, data analysis and synthesis were carried out on the basis of defined research issues in issues PICO format. The thesis draws attention to the stress factors that affect the exercise of the nursing profession and tries to specify the areas of greatest risk, that determine the occurrence of stress, burnout and job dissatisfaction. The focal point was the selection of documents by means of a sorting diagram, through which the results of presented problems were summarized. It was found that predictors of stress, burnout and job satisfaction blend together and interact. It was also confirmed that if the risk of work-related stress is reduced to a minimum, the burnout syndrome does not occur to such an extent and nurses tend to be more satisfied with their jobs. The results of the overview thesis can well be used in the area of prevention of professional burden of nurses and also understanding of causality of these relations when comparing of new results with a comprehensive overview of available literature.
