The influence of selected factors on the use of funding sources in the V4+ countries

Abstract:

Disertační práce se zabývá oblastí kapitálové, případně finanční struktury společností. Cílem práce je na základě rozdělení společností dle velikosti a odvětví zjistit vliv vybraných vnějších a vnitřních faktorů na jejich finanční strukturu ve vybraných zemích střední a východní Evropy. S ohledem na dostupnost dat, jež pocházejí z databáze Orbis, je pozornost soustředěna na středně velké a (velmi) velké společnosti z České republiky, Slovenska, Polska, Maďarska, Bulharska, Rakouska, Rumunska a Slovinska, které jsou analyzovány za období 2010–2018. Teoretická část se věnuje finančnímu řízení podniku s důrazem na roli zdrojů financování. Dále jsou zde popsány základní teorie kapitálové struktury, na něž navazuje rozsáhlá rešerše s výsledky dosavadních výzkumů v této oblasti. Po této části následuje charakteristika dat a proměnných reprezentujících jednotlivé determinanty, jimiž jsou rentabilita, likvidita, struktura aktiv, nedluhový daňový štít, velikost, tempo růstu HDP, míra inflace a míra referenční úrokové sazby. Tato část rovněž zahrnuje vývoj ekonomického prostředí v jednotlivých zemích a odvětvích. K naplnění cíle a zjištění závislostí mezi proměnnými jsou použity dvě metody, a to korelační analýza a stěžejní zobecněná metoda momentů. Empirická část práce obsahuje výsledky jednotlivých metod. Hlavní zjištění jsou dvě. Z pohledu délky splatnosti závazků se dopady jednotlivých determinantů výrazně neliší a zároveň se dopady příliš neodlišují s ohledem na velikost společností, zemi původu či odvětví. Druhým zjištěním je skutečnost, že významný dopad na výši zadlužení mají ve všech ekonomikách vnější determinanty – vývoj ekonomiky, míra inflace a míra referenční úrokové sazby.

Abstract:

The dissertation thesis deals with the area of capital or financial structure of companies. The aim of the dissertation thesis is to determine the influence of selected external and internal factors on their financial structure in selected countries of Central and Eastern Europe based on the division of companies by size and industry. Considering the availability of data from the Orbis database, the dissertation is focused on the medium-sized and (very) large companies from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Austria, Romania, Slovenia, which are analyzed for the period 2010–2018. The theoretical part is devoted to the financial management of the company with an emphasis on the role of funding sources. Furthermore, the basic theories of the capital structure are described here, which are followed by an extensive literature overview with the results of previous researches in this area. This part is followed by the characteristics of data and variables representing individual factors, which are profitability, liquidity, asset structure, non-debt tax shield, company’s size, GDP growth rate, inflation rate and reference interest rate. This part also covers the development of the economic environment in individual countries and industries. Two methods are used to fulfill the aim and determine the dependencies between variables, namely correlation analysis and the crucial Generalized Method of Moments. The empirical part of the work contains the results of individual methods. There are two main findings. From the point of view of the length of maturity of the liabilities, the impacts of the individual determinants do not differ significantly, and at the same time the impacts do not differ much with respect to the size of the companies, the country of origin or the industry. The second finding is the fact that external determinants (GDP, inflation, interest rate) have a significant impact on the level of indebtedness in all economies.
