ZigBee wireless network for collection of physical data

Abstract:

ZigBee protocol, which is built on top of the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol, is one of the most used protocols in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) due to its appropriateness in such networks. Its main features include low bandwidth, low power consumption, high level of security, and low cost. This protocol supports star, tree, cluster tree and mesh topologies. ZigBee defines three types of devices; coordinator, router and end devices. The purpose of this thesis is to design a WSN system that is capable of measuring a physical phenomenon (temperature) at specific time intervals, and transfer the measured data through the WSN to the coordinator, where the coordinator in turn send the received data, using a communication protocol designed for this purpose, to a personal computer PC or a laptop. Also software will be designed to process the received measured data, store it in a database, and display it on the screen through texts, and graphs providing further capabilities for analyzing the received measured values.
