Psychological stress for patients with dementia

Abstract:

Předložená diplomová práce je zaměřena na psychickou zátěž pečujících o pacienty s demencí, kteří žijí v domově se zvláštním režimem. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části. První, teoretická část, charakterizuje základní pojmy, jako jsou stáří, demence, stres a syndrom vyhoření. Zvláštní kapitola je pak věnována tématu psychické zátěže pracovníků u pacientů s demencí. Předmětem praktické části, která vychází z teoretické části, je provedení analýzy a vyhodnocení současného stavu pečujících o pacienty s demencí z hlediska jejich psychické zátěže, s bližším zaměřením na intenzitu syndromu vyhoření v oblasti emocionálního vyčerpání, depersonalizace a osobního uspokojení. Data byla získána metodou dotazníku. První část dotazníku tvoří identifikační otázky, které se vztahují zejména k věku, délce praxe, délce praxe v konkrétním zařízení, pracovnímu zařazení; dále soubor dotazů zkoumající, jaká je psychická zátěž pečujících o pacienty s demencí. Druhou částí je standardizovaný dotazník Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), který zkoumá rizika syndromu vyhoření ve 3 oblastech, a to emocionální vyčerpání, depersonalizaci a osobní uspokojení. Z průzkumu vyplývá, že mezi zaměstnanci uvedené organizace existují tací, kteří jsou více ohroženi rizikem syndromu vyhoření, což je zřejmé z výsledků dotazníku MBI. Pečující o pacienty s demencí tak vykazují vyšší stupeň emocionálního vyčerpání, depersonalizace a nižší stupeň osobního uspokojení. Zároveň se nepotvrdila souvislost mezi spokojeností s prací a stupněm emocionálního vyčerpání, depersonalizací a délkou praxe na pracovišti. Korelace se neprokázala ani mezi stupněm osobního uspokojení a zájmem o další vzdělávání.

Abstract:

Presented thesis focuses on the psychological stress of caring for patients with dementia who live in a home with a special regime. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first, theoretical part, characterizes the basic concepts such as old age, dementia, stress and burnout. A special chapter is then devoted to the topic of a psychological burden of workers for patients with dementia. The subject of the practical part, which is based on the theoretical part, is to undertake analysis and evaluating of the current condition of caring for patients with dementia in terms of their psychological stress, with closer focusing on the intensity of burnout in the area of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal satisfaction. Data were obtained by the method of questionnaire. The first part of the questionnaire consists of identification questions which relate to age, length of practice, length of practice in a particular facility, job classification, further set of questions exploring what the psychological stress of caring for patients with dementia. The second part is a standardized questionnaire of Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), which examines the risks of burnout syndrome in 3 areas, emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal satisfaction. Research shows that among the workers of the mentioned organization there are those who are more vulnerable to the risk of burnout, which is obvious from the results of the questionnaire MBI. Caring for patiens with dementia so they show a higher degree of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal satisfaction. At the same time to confirm the link between satisfaction with the work and the degree of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and length of practice in the workplace. The correlation has not been demonstrated nor between the degree of personal satisfaction and interest in further education.
