Penetration of gel protective agent onto wood

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá studiem hloubky průniku gelového ochranného prostředku u dřevěných vzorků smrku a dubu. Hlavním cílem bylo analyzovat hloubku průniku ochranného prostředku na základě přítomnosti účinné látky permethrinu a zjištění výše příjmu této látky v příčných směrech – radiálním a tangenciálním ve dřevě smrku a dubu. Dalším cílem bylo porovnat tyto výsledky s průnikem kapalného prostředku se stejnou činnou látkou. Naimpregnované vzorky byly následně rozděleny do tří sad, přičemž každá sada byla během zasychání ochranného prostředku vystavena odlišným klimatickým podmínkám po dobu dvou týdnů, aby se simulovaly různé prostředí, ve kterých může být dřevo impregnováno. Přítomnost účinné látky permethrinu se zjišťovala pomocí kapalinové chromatografie z extraktů vzorků. Po vyhodnocení výsledků bylo zjištěno, že v dřevě smrku bylo dosaženo hlubšího průniku v tangenciálním směru, a to do hloubky 40 mm. V radiálním směru bylo dosaženo mírnějšího průniku, a to do hloubky 20 mm. U dubu byl průnik výrazně nižší. Pomocí statistické analýzy nebyl shledán zásadní rozdíly mezi anatomickými směry. To též platí pro klimatické podmínky zasychání. Ale z hlediska průměrných hodnot lze pozorovat, že podmínky, které vedou k rychlejšímu vysychání gelového ochranného prostředku, snižuji průnik ochranné látky a zvyšují koncentraci na povrchové vrstvě.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the study of the depth of penetration of gel protectant in wooden specimens of spruce and oak. The main goal was to analyse the depth of penetration of the protectant based on the presence of the active substance permethrin and to determine the amount of uptake of this substance in the transverse directions - radial and tangential in spruce and oak wood. Another goal was to compare these results with the penetration of a liquid preparation with the same active ingredient. The impregnated specimens were then divided into three sets, each set being exposed to different climatic conditions for two weeks while the protectant was drying, to simulate the different environments in which wood can be impregnated. The presence of the active ingredient permethrin was detected by liquid chromatography from the specimens extracts. After evaluation of the results, it was found that a deeper penetration in the tangential direction was achieved in spruce wood, to a depth of 40 mm. In the radial direction, a lesser penetration was achieved to a depth of 20 mm. In oak the penetration was significantly lower. Using statistical analysis, no significant differences were found between the anatomical directions. This also applies to the climatic conditions of drying. But in terms of average values, it can be observed that conditions that lead to faster drying of the gel protectant reduce the penetration of the protectant and increase the concentration on the surface layer.
