Communist Prison in Czech Literature of the 20th Century

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje komplexní interpretaci vybraných próz Karla Pecky (Na co umírají muži, Motáky nezvěstnému) a Jiřího Stránského (Štěstí). Součástí práce je mimo uvedení do dobového kontextu zachycení podoby vězeňství po roce 1948 spolu s jeho působením na člověka, zobrazení dopadů komunistické moci na českou literaturu nebo pokus o vymezení termínu „vězeňská literatura“. Další část diplomové práce je orientována pouze na výše zmíněné autory. Ti jsou nejprve představeni a poté je postižena geneze jejich konkrétních děl a dochází na samotnou interpretaci, která je rozdělena do tří vrstev – na vrstvu tematickou, kompoziční a jazykovou. Součástí práce je komparace těchto děl a shledání společných znaků vlastních vězeňské literatuře.

Abstract:

The Master thesis is focused on comprehensive interpretation of Karel Pecka‘s pieces (Na co umírají muži; Motáky nezvěstnému) and Jiří Stránský‘s masterpiece (Štěstí). This Master thesis includes an introduction of history context, a delineation of totalitarian prison and its impingement on the people inside and a presentment of how communist repression changed Czech literature. The thesis also tries to clarify the term „prison literature“. The second part of this Master thesis is orientated towards writers. Firstly, they are presented, lately, the content of the thesis is focused on the genesis of their masterpieces and the interpretation of these works. The interpretation involves three lines – topical, compositional and linguistic. The comparison of these publications and gathering similar signs of the „prison literature“ is included as a component of the thesis.
