Cílem této práce je prozkoumat politický a sociální význam internetových memů v pravicových online komunitách, a přispět do teoretického základu internetových memů. YouTube video The NPC Meme Perfectly Explains Why 'The Left Can’t Meme' nahrané pravicovým komentátorem Timem Poolem a komentáře pod videem posloužily jako klíčová data, která byla analyzována pomocí referenčních a predikačních strategií. Výsledky analýzy naznačují, že internetové memy fungují jako komunikační humor, který je používán k zachování rasově bílé mužské heteronormativní identity online komunit a i mimo ně.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to examine the political and social significance of internet memes in the US right-wing online spaces, and to make a contribution to the theoretical background of internet memes. A YouTube video The NPC Meme Perfectly Explains Why 'The Left Can’t Meme' posted by a right-wing commentator Tim Pool and its comment section provide the data for the analysis which is based on nomination and predicational strategies of the Discourse-Historical Approach (Reisigl & Wodak, 2001). The findings suggest that internet memes function as a communicative genre of banter which is used to maintain the predominantly white male heteronormative status quo in online communities and outside the internet.
