Abstract:

Komparativní analýza tříaktových narativních struktur filmů Davida Lynche Mazací hlava (1977) a Inland Empire (2006) rozebírá pomocí modelu Blakea Snydera narativního strukturu obou filmů. Blake Snyder v knize Save the Cat! (2005) představuje patnáctibodový model podle děj posouvajících událostí, ke kterým má docházet v konkrétních minutách. Zmiňovanou stopáž proporčně zkoumám v Lynchových filmech a popisuji, zda je jejich stavba odlišná od té modelové. Došel jsem k závěru, že Lynch narativní struktury ovládá a drží se jich, dokonce se ve stavbě zkoumaných filmů dají vysledovat společné tendence: prodloužený první akt, který obsahuje všechny potřebné elementy, pouze katalyzátor i první bod zvratu přicházejí výrazně pozdě, druhý akt disponuje přesným midpointem a druhým bodem zvratu, ale struktuře se vzdaluje, vynechává odlehčené pasáže na úkor těch znepokojivých, divák ztrácí kontrolu nad příběhem. Tu zpětně nalézá až ve třetím aktu, kdy se Lynch v závěrečné scéně zrcadlově vrací ke scéně úvodní a nachází novou rovnováhu.

Abstract:

Using Blake Snyder's model, a comparative analysis of the three-act narrative structures of David Lynch's Ereaserhead (1977) and Inland Empire (2006) analyses the narrative structure of both films. In Save the Cat! (2005), Blake Snyder presents a fifteen-point model based on plot-shifting events that are to occur in specific minutes. I examine the aforementioned proportion in Lynch's films and describe whether their structure differs from the model's. I conclude that Lynch controls and adheres to the narrative structures, and even common tendencies can be traced in the construction of the films examined: an extended first act that contains all the necessary elements, with only the catalyst and the first turning point arriving significantly late; the second act has a precise midpoint and second turning point, but moves away from the structure, skipping the lighter passages at the expense of the more disturbing ones; the viewer loses control of the story. It is not until Act III, when Lynch mirrors the opening scene in the final scene and finds a new balance, that the viewer finds the story again.
