Swing states in US election between 1992 and 2020

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá rolí swing states v amerických prezidentských volbách v letech 1992 až 2020. Nejprve se zaměřuji na způsob, jakým identifikuji státy splňující charakteristické prvky swing states. Následně zkoumám možný vývoj těchto států a uvedu možná dělení zástupců swing states. Dále se zaměřuji na identifikaci swing states v jednotlivých osmi volebních obdobích a na analýzu aspektů volební soutěže v těchto státech. Tím si odpovídám výzkumnou otázku "Jaká byla role swing states ve volebních obdobích v letech 1992-2020?".

Abstract:

My bachelor thesis examines the role of swing states in presidential elections of the USA between 1992 and 2020. At first, I focus on method that I use to identify necessary conditions that swing states should fulfill. After that, I research the possible evolution of swing states and introduce categorizing of swing states. In the next part of the thesis, I aim at identification of particular swing states in each election and I analyse aspects of electoral competition in these states. This way I am able to answer my research question "What was the role swing states in american presidential elections between 1992 and 2020?".
