The use of Lemna minor for evaluation of cadmium

Abstract:

Negativní důsledky zvyšujícího se obsahu mobilních forem kovů v půdách způsobené kontaminací biosféry různými polutanty se nepříznivě projevují v růstu a ve vývoji rostlin. Cílem diplomové práce bylo posoudit vliv zvyšující se koncentrace toxického kovu kadmia (0 – 0,1 – 1 – 10 µg/l) a zvyšujícího se pH (3,5 – 4,5 – 5,5 – 7,5) na růstové (počet rostlin, čerstvá hmotnost, hmotnost sušiny a listová plocha) a fyziologické parametry (fluorescence chlorofylu a obsah fotosyntetických pigmentů) okřehku menšího (Lemna minor L.). Tento druh je v současnosti hojně využíván jako modelový organismus pro studium ekologie společenstev a ekotoxikologie. Okřehek byl testován po 10 dnů s vyhodnocením parametrů v 0., 4. a 10. dni experimentu. Signifikantní snížení počtu rostlin a produkce biomasy bylo zaznamenáno po 10 dnech kultivace v roztoku s 10 µg/l kadmia a při pH roztoku 3,5, 4,5, 5,5 a 7,5.

Abstract:

The negative consequences of a rising content of mobile form metals in soils caused by biosphere contamination by various pollutants are shown adversely in the development of plants. The aim of this diploma thesis was to assess the rising concentration of the toxic metal cadmium (0 – 0,1 – 1 – 10 µg/l) and rising pH factor (3,5 – 4,5 – 5,5 – 7,5) on growth (number of plants, fresh weight, dry weight and leaf area) and physiological parameters (chlorophyll fluorescence and the content of photosynthetic pigments) of duckweed (Lemna minor L.). In recent years, these species have been used as a model organism for study synecology and ecotoxicology. Duckweed has been tested for 10 days with parameter evaluation on the 0, 4th and 10th day of experiment. Significant decrease of number of plants and production of biomass has been recorded after 10 days of cultivations in a solution with 10 µg/l of cadmium and a solution with 3,5, 4,5, 5,5 and 7,5 pH.
