Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá dílem Samuela Becketta a jeho vztahem k výtvarnému umění. V první kapitole se zaměřuje na život spisovatele v dobách, kdy se ještě zdaleka neprezentoval jako novelista a dramatik. Jeho život byl už tehdy úzce spjat s výtvarným uměním, především malířstvím. Kromě samostudia v galeriích a muzeích se obklopoval přáteli z literárního i výtvarného prostředí. Druhá kapitola je zaměřena na proces, ve kterém Beckett zájem o výtvarno reflektoval ve svém psaní. Je zde uvedeno několik ukázek zpracování malířského tématu v próze a v konkrétních divadelních hrách, kde je zřejmá realizace autorových vizuálních představ. Zmíněn je rovněž vývoj výtvarného umění v době, kdy psal svá dramata a také je naznačen způsob, jakým hledal směr svého vyjadřování. Beckett se postupně oprostil od polohy spisovatele, který inteligentně a vtipně využívá jazyk. Komunikace, psané slovo a příběh se u absurdního divadla stává vice a vice zbytečným, Beckett se nechává inspirovat výtvarnými prostředky a přibližuje se poloze minimalistického umělce. V závěrečné kapitole jsou uvedeny příklady dvou krátkých televizních her. V nich je již Beckettův experimentální a minimalistický styl plně výtvarný. V práci je dále zviditelněn fakt, že v průběhu posunu od tvorby literární k tvorbě filmaře a výtvarníka se Beckett stal jedním z předchůdců umění videoartu.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the work of Samuel Beckett and his relationship to the visual arts. Chapter 1 focuses on the writer´s life in the days when he did not present himself as a novelist nor playwright. His life was then closely associated with the visual arts, especially with painting. Besides his self-directed study in galleries and museums, he was surrounded with friends from the literary and artistic environment. Chapter 2 is focused on the process in which Beckett reflected his interest in visual arts throughout his writing. There are several examples of processing a painterly theme in fiction and in concrete theatre plays. Both the inspiration and realization of a visual imagination are evident. There is also mentioned the development of fine arts at the time as Beckett wrote his dramas and sought his own artistic direction. He gradually freed himself from the position of a writer who only uses intelligent and witty language. In Beckett´s absurdist plays language and communication breakdown, and plot becomes more and more irrelevant. Consequently, Beckett is inspired by visual means and his approach is near to that of the minimalist artists. In Chapter 3, there are given two examples of short television plays in which Beckett´s experimental and minimalistic style is dominant. Further is highlighted the fact, that Beckett shifted from the literary production to creating visual art and became even one of the forerunners of video art.
