Therapeutic storytelling for children in English lessons

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem „Pohádkoterapie pro děti v hodinách angličtiny“ jako možnost pro učitele podpořit dobré chování v anglické školce s využitím storytellingu a jiných terapeutických metod, například biblioterapie a arteterapie. Skládá se z teoretické a praktické části. Teoretická část definuje klíčová slova, o kterých se pojednává v této práci a také podává informaci o storytellingu a obou terapeutických metodách. Tato práce dále podává nástin vývoje dětí ve věku 3 až 6 let a také jejich již v tomto věku dosažených emočních reakcí. Praktická část popisuje výzkumný vzorek a materiál vybraný pro práci s velmi malými dětmi v anglické školce. Také nabízí plány jednotlivých lekcí navržených na šestnáct po sobě jdoucích lekcí. Na základě výzkumu a zhodnocení dětmi i jejich učitelem, tato práce ukazuje jak jsou obě terapeutické metody aplikovatelné společně a jaký efekt mají na mladé žáky. Hlavním úkolem této práce je vyzkoušet si, analyzovat a zpětně zhodnotit chování dětí ve školce a obzvláště pozitivní metody na upevnění dobrého chování.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the topic “Therapeutical storytelling as a tool to promote good behaviour for children in English lessons” as an opportunity for teachers to promote good behaviour in English kindergarten using storytelling and other therapeutic approaches, for example, bibliotherapy and art therapy. It consists of theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part defines the key terms dealt with within the thesis and also introduces information on storytelling and both therapeutic methods. It also provides an outline for development of children aged three to six years old and their emotional reactions already present at that age. The practical part describes the research sample and material chosen to work with very young learners in English class kindergarten. It also provides lesson plans designed for a sequence of sixteen lessons. On the basis of research and assessment carried out by both a teacher and learners, it shows how the therapeutic methods are applicable together and what effect it has on the young learners. The main aim of this thesis is to examine, analyse and reflect on the behavioural issues of kindergarten children and especially the positive methods to improve that.
