Motivation of Generation Z to work in a bank

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se věnuje motivaci generace Z pracovat v bance. Generace Z, tvořená jednotlivci narozenými v letech 1996–2010, přináší nové perspektivy, hodnoty a očekávání do pracovního prostředí. Cílem práce je zhodnotit, jak je pro generaci Z práce v bance atraktivní, a identifikovat její nejdůležitější motivační faktory, preference a očekávání, které ovlivňují rozhodování generace Z při volbě kariéry. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část charakterizuje generaci Z, její klíčové aspekty na trhu práce a zkoumá motivaci v pracovním prostředí. Praktická část se zaměřuje na vlastní výzkum a vyhodnocení hypotéz. Ke sběru dat byla použita kvantitativní metoda využívající dotazníkové šetření mezi studenty a zaměstnanci vybrané banky. Provedeným výzkumem je zjištěno, že pro respondenty generace Z práce v bance není atraktivní, ale projevují zájem o praxi v bance při škole, zejména spojenou s finančním ohodnocením a s karierním postupem. Oslovení zástupci generace Z upřednostňují dobré finanční ohodnocení před smysluplností a náplní práce. Vyhledávají flexibilitu v práci, která zahrnuje flexibilní pracovní dobu, home office a placenou dovolenou navíc. Průzkum ukazuje, že významným motivačním faktorem pro zástupce generace Z jsou mezilidské vztahy a s tím související vztah s jejich nadřízeným manažerem. Závěry této studie poskytují hlubší pochopení toho, co motivuje generaci Z vstoupit do bankovního odvětví, a mohou sloužit jako zdroj informací pro potřeby managementu a HR banky XY hledající strategie k přilákání a udržení mladé generace.

Abstract:

This master thesis focuses on the motivation of Generation Z to work in a bank. Generation Z, made up of individuals born between 1996 and 2010, brings new perspectives, values, and expectations to the work environment. The aim of this thesis is to assess how attractive Generation Z finds working in a bank and to identify the most important motivational factors, preferences, and expectations that influence Generation Z's career decisions. The thesis is structured into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical section describes Generation Z, its key aspects in the labour market and examines motivation in the work environment. The practical section is devoted to the actual research and the evaluation of the hypotheses. A quantitative method using a questionnaire survey among students and employees of a selected bank was used to collect data. The conducted research shows that Generation Z respondents do not find it attractive to work in a bank, but they show interest in an internship in a bank while at school, particularly if it is connected to financial compensation and career growth. Generation Z respondents prefer reasonable financial compensation to a meaningful and fulfilling job. They seek flexibility in work, which includes flexible working hours, a home office, and extra paid holidays. The survey shows that an important motivating factors for Generation Z representatives are interpersonal relationships and the associated relationship with their manager. The outcomes of this study provide a deeper understanding of what motivates Generation Z to enter the banking industry and could inform the needs of management and HR of Bank XY, who are looking for strategies to attract and retain the younger generation.
