The relationship between conception of self as a helping person and prosocial behaviour

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá vztahem mezi prosociálním chováním a sebepojetím. Naším cílem bylo zjistit, jestli existuje vztah mezi prosociálním chováním a vnímanou prosociální orientací. Data byla získána formou pozorování a dotazníkového šetření. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 67 adolescentů a mladých dospělých. Každý z nich vyplnil dotazník prosociálního chování v minulosti a dotazník vnímané prosociální orientace a byl pozorován při třech příležitostech k prosociálnímu chování. K ověření hypotéz byla použita korelační analýza. Výsledky podpořily u skupiny mužů plně náš předpoklad, u skupiny žen pouze částečně. Zjistili jsme, že u žen souvisí vnímaná prosociální orientace pouze s dlouhodobým prosociálním chováním. Na spontánní prosociální chování nemá vnímaná prosociální orientace významný vliv.

Abstract:

The paper is focused on relation between prosocial behaviour and self – concept. The goal is to examinate whether the relationship between prosocial behaviour and perceived prosocial orientation exists. The data was obtained by questionaire and observation. There were 67 adolescents and youth in the participants group. Each of them was asked to fill in the two questionaires – the first one regarding the prosocial behaviour in the past and the second one regarding the perceived prosocial orientation. The participant was also observed at three situations giving him an oppotunity to act prosocially. To validate the hypothesis, we use correlation analysis. According to the results, our hypothesis can be fully accepted in the group of men, while we can accept it only partially in the group of women. Furthermore, there is relation only between perceived prosocial orientation and long – term prosocial behaviour. In the group of women prosocial orientation has no impact on the spontaneous prosocial behaviour
