Mount Athos and the Eastern Orthodox Monasticism

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje stručnému popisu fenoménu východního křesťanského mnišství a s tím související Svaté Hory Athos. Cílem práce je představení čtenáři specifické oblasti východního mnišství, tedy Svaté Hory Athos, ukázat její místo v lokálním, ale i světovém měřítku. Součástí tohoto povědomí je i představení několika mála důležitých postav ovlivňujících právě ono vnímání Svaté Hory za jejími hranicemi a vyložení její zajímavé historie. Čtenář by si po přečtení této práce měl být schopen vybavit některé důležité mezníky z historie Svaté Hory, poznat významné postavy a jejich přínos pro duchovní oblasti a zamyslet se nad aktuálním vývojem této oblasti v souvislosti s vývojem posledních dvou dekád v režii moderní doby. Důvodem vzniku této práce je i faktická neexistence většího množství podobných prací v českém jazyce.

Abstract:

This work is devoted to a brief description of phenomenon of eastern Christian monasticism and the Holy Mountain Athos, which is related with the topic. The main purpose of this Bachelor work is to introduce specific region of eastern monasticism, precisely Holy Mountain Athos, to show its place on local and also global scale too. A part of this awareness is to introduce a few important characters who influencing exactly this perception of Holy Mountain behind its boarder and interpretation of its exciting history. The reader should be able to recall some of the important landmarks from history of Holy Mountain, recognize significant characters and their contribution for spiritual area and think about current development of this region related to progress of the last two decades in direction of modern age, after reading this book. The reason for creation of this work is non-existent amount of similar works/thesis written in Czech language.
