Behind the glass ceiling - social perceptions of women in leadership positions

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem sociálního vnímání žen na vysokých pracovních pozicích. Tato tématika je komplexním problémem, který stojí v dosažení genderové rovnosti ve státech a také kvalitním sociálním životem jejich obyvatel. Nastíněny jsou témata, jako stereotypy bránící ženám dosáhnout na vyšší pracovní pozice, gender pay gap a strategie EU k dosažení vyšší rovnosti. Data, které byla v této práci nasbírána komplexně shrnují poměry žen a mužů na vysokých pracovních pozicích v oblasti business. Tato data jsou srovnána s ekonomickými vlastnostmi vybraných evropských států a uvedena do kontextu genderové rovnosti v těchto státech. Bylo zjištěno, že stereotypy o ženách na vysokých pracovních pozicích stále přetrvávají a to především v zemích, které mají menší ekonomickou výkonnost a menší ochotu zařadit genderovou rovnost mezi priority rozvoje státu a EU.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of the social perception of women in leadership positions. This topic is a complex issue that stands in the achievement of gender equality in the states and also the quality of social life of their inhabitants. Topics such as stereotypes preventing women from reaching senior positions, the gender pay gap and EU strategies to achieve greater equality are outlined. The data collected in this thesis comprehensively summarises the gender ratios in high-level business jobs. These data are compared with the economic characteristics of selected European countries and put into the context of gender equality in these countries. It is found that stereotypes about women in high-level jobs persist, especially in countries with lower economic performance and less willingness to include gender equality among national and EU development priorities.
