Hlavním cílem této práce je sledovat vývoj amerického seriálu, konkrétně od roku 1990. Jako první je nastíněna historie amerického seriálu od jeho vzniku; dále je poskytnuto rozdělení na základní narativní typy a žánry, stručná charakteristika vybraných seriálů cílového období.
