This dissertation deals with Received Pronunciation (RP), the prestige accent in England and, to a lesser extent, in the other parts of Great Britain. It examines the perception of this accent by English (i.e. a native) and Czech (non-native) respondents. Furthermore, the dissertation also analyses the roles RP fulfils in the two environments.
