This bachelor's dissertation aims to explore representations of Islamic religion and its fundamentalist manifestations in selected examples of contemporary British fiction, including My Son the Fanatic by Hanif Kureishi and The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie, with the aim to juxtapose Kureishi's apparently serious stance with Rushdie's use of satire as a means of social and ideological criticism …more
Abstract:
Cílem této bakalářské práce je prozkoumat zobrazení islámského náboženství a jeho fundamentalistických projevů ve vybraných příkladech současné britské beletrie, včetně knih Můj syn fanatik od Hanifa Kureishiho a Satanské verše od Salmana Rushdieho, s cílem porovnat Kureishiho zdánlivě vážný postoj s Rushdieho využitím satiry jako prostředku společenské a ideologické kritiky.
