Persuasion - fundamental principles and causality

Abstract:

The concepts to convince and to persuade have the similar meaning, however, the concept persuasion is significantly less frequent. Analogically, similar ratio can be found in ratio of publications that approached this topic from popular perspective and academic perspective. Popular literature aimed at psychological manipulation is easily accessible and it is usually focused on question “How to convince?” In general, this literature usually contains list of advices how to create persuasive arguments. However, these sources do not explore the depth of this concept and are not aimed at the causality of the attitude and behavior change. According to the author, it is the exploration of causality and fundamental principles that are the key of profound understanding. This thesis provides the theoretical explanations of persuasion processes that are supported by experimental evidence. It also provides examples of practical application. Crucial idea of this work is to summarize theoretical background of the persuasion that will create foundation for further study and use.

Abstract:

Termíny presvedčovanie a persuázia majú rovnaký význam, no na rozdiel od presvedčovania je persuázia termín nefrekventovaný. Podobnú početnosť majú aj publikácie venujúce sa tejto oblasti. Populárna literatúra na téma presvedčovanie či psychická manipulácia je ľahko dostupná a obvykle sa zameriava na otázku „Ako presvedčovať?“ a obmedzuje sa na popis rád, ako vytvárať presvedčivé argumenty. Tieto zdroje však nepostihujú proces presvedčovania v jeho hĺbke a nezameriavajú sa na kauzalitu zmeny postoja a správania. Avšak práve pochopenie kauzality a fundamentálnych princípov je kľúčom k preniknutiu do hĺbky procesu persuázie. Táto práca poskytne teoretické vysvetlenia procesov persuázie, podloží ich radom experimentálnych dôkazov a poskytne praktické príklady uplatnenia týchto teórií. Ústredným motívom tejto práce je teoretické ukotvenie konceptu persuázie, ktoré poskytuje východiskovú pozíciu pre jej štúdium a praktické uplatnenie.
