Study of the fungal pathogen, Cucurbitaria bud blight on spruce (Gemmamyces piceae [Borthw.] Casagr.) in chosen forest stands of blue spruce in Krušné hory Mountains

Abstract:

V letech 2013-2019 byly studovány vývojové fáze houbového patogenu kloubnatky smrkové Gemmamyces piceae (Borthw.) Casagrande v lesních porostech smrku pichlavého Picea pungens Engelm. Vybrány byly čtyři ekologickyrozdílné lokality v oblasti vodní nádrže Fláje (755-920 m n.m.) ve východních Krušných horách. Dále byl sledován vývoj napadení vybraných porostů tímto patogenem. Pyknidy jarního napadení se tvořily ve druhé polovině měsíce června, pyknidy na pupenech s loňským napadením se tvořily na začátku června. Konidie byly zaznamenány v pyknidách jarního napadení od prvního týdne července či až od poloviny tohoto měsíce. V pyknidách na pupenech loňského napadení se konidie tvořily rovněž v prvním týdnu července. Tvorba konidií trvala až do konce září. Tvorba askospor byla zaznamenána od poloviny července a trvala také do konce září. Závislost vývojových stádií patogenu na teplotě a vzdušné vlhkosti nebyla zjištěna. Míra prorůstání pupenů smrku pichlavého jako ukazatel virulence patogenu se průběžně snižovala, stejně tak míra prosychání korun se průběžně zvyšovala. Hlubší pokles schopnosti pupenů prorůstat byl zaznamenán v porostech plného korunového zápoje a v porostech s konkurencí břízy. Logistickou funkcí proložený trend prosychání korun modeluje počátek prosychání a patrně i počátek nástupu patogenu na smrku pichlavém na lokalitách před rok 2007. Lapač spor zachytil jen malé množství spor patogenu, na základě toho, lze soudit, že patogen užívá jiný způsob šíření než větrem.

Abstract:

In 2013-2019 was carried out survey of the life cycle of bud blight Gemmamyces piceae (Borthw.) Casagrande and assessment of trend in infestation of the Colorado blue spruce Picea pungens Engelm. stands. Four different plots were chosen in the Fláje region in the Eastern part of the Krušné hory Mountains. Pycnidia were formed in the onset of the June on buds infested in previous year, later, in second half of June were formed on buds of the spring attack. Conidia in pycnidia were registered from the first week of July in case of buds of previous year attack, in the same time or later, from middle July onward, in the case of buds of the spring attack. Production of conidia endured till the end of September. Ascospore production was registered from the half of July and persisted to the end of September. Relation of the life cycle stages of pathogen on temperature and relative air humidity was not found. Rate of sprouting buds on Blue Spruce trees as a marker of pathogen virulence got continually weaker, herewith the rate of needle cast got higher. Distinct decline of the sprouting ability was noticed in stands of dense crown canopy and in stands with competition of broadleaved trees - with admixture of silver birch Betula pendula Roth. Logistic function fitted the trend of defoliation implies that onset of the defoliation and outbreak of the disease started before 2007. Spore sampler of Burkard type was not efficient in spore trapping, on base of that fact can to be assumed that the pathogen uses a different way of spread than the wind.
