Sentiment Analysis with Linguistic Knowledge

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá historií a praktickými aspekty analýzy sentimentu českých textů. Analýza sentimentu si klade za cíl vytvořit automatizovaný systém schopný extrakce, analýzy a klasifikace subjektivních názorů a postojů vyjádřených v psaném textu. K tomuto účelu byl implementován algoritmus zvaný „linguistically regularized long short-term memory neural network“ (český ekvivalent se neužívá, dále jen LR-LSTM). Jedná se o neuronovou síť obohacenou o moduly specializované na modelování vlivu emocionálně zabarvených, negativních a zesilujících slov v jazyce. Texty použité pro tuto práci pochází z českých sociálních médií, proto bylo zapotřebí data pečlivě připravit a získat z nich potřebné rysy. Ačkoli LR-LSTM nedosáhla na jednotlivých datasetech lepších výsledků než jiné, dříve na české analýze sentimentu prozkoumané metody, projevila slibné dovednosti na větších objemech dat. Důkladná analýza chyb odhalila, že dostupné české datasety neposkytují dostatečně kvalitní příklady negací a zesilujících slov a že pro pochopení sentimentu nestačí informace na úrovni jednotlivých slov a jejich souslednosti.

Abstract:

This thesis addresses the history and practical aspects of sentiment analysis in Czech. Sentiment analysis aims to create an automated system capable of extracting, analyzing, and classifying subjective opinions and attitudes expressed in texts. An algorithm called Linguistically Regularized Long Short-Term Memory (LR-LSTM) neural network was implemented for the task. It is a neural network enriched with modules specialized in modeling the role of emotional, negation, and intensity words in a language. The texts used in this work originate from Czech social media sites. Therefore, careful data preparation and feature extraction were performed. While the LR-LSTM achieved worse results on individual datasets than other methods researched on Czech sentiment analysis in the past, promising abilities were observed with more extensive resources. Detailed error analysis suggests that available Czech datasets do not provide enough quality negation and intensification examples and that understanding sentiment involves more than word-level and sequential information.
