The role of blockchain in overcoming supply chain challenges

Abstract:

Blockchain je poměrně nová technologie, která se v předchozích letech stala velmi populární, a to především skrze Bitcoin. Nicméně, tato technologie se již osvědčila také v řadě dalších oblastí. Cílem této práce je popsat aplikaci blockchainu v dodavatelsko-odběratelském řetězci, zhodnotit jeho schopnost čelit vybraným problémům v tomto odvětví, a také uvést poznatky o současném stavu a rozsahu zkoumaných projektů. Zatímco dosavadní výzkum v tomto směru byl zacílen primárně na možnosti využití či studie proveditelnost, tato práce se zaměřuje na analýzu projektů nasazených v produkčním prostředí. Výzkum je založen na vzorku 10 projektů, které byly vybrány z 45 aplikací blockchainu a k jejich zhodnocení jsou využity kvalitativní metody obsahové analýzy a výzkumné případové studie. Na závěr je představen zkonstruovaný konceptuální model obsahující formulované návrhy.

Abstract:

Blockchain is an emerging and disruptive technology that has gained enormous popularity in the previous years, mainly because of its connection with Bitcoin. Nevertheless, it has been implemented and proved itself successful in numerous other fields. This research centers on reviewing the outcomes of its adoptions in the supply chain. It evaluates the achievements of blockchain in overcoming supply chain difficulties. Finally, it researches the extent and the progress of the studied cases. The majority of prior research is predominantly about possible ways of adoption, proofs-of-concept, and beta projects. This research goes a step further and describes the effects of implementing blockchain-based applications in real business cases. The findings are achieved with the case studies using secondary data content analysis on a sample of ten cases selected out of 45 blockchain-based projects. As a result, a developed conceptual model incorporating the formulated propositions is introduced.
