The discussion of realism and constructivism in the context of the US nuclear proliferation

Abstract:

Jaderné zbraně se řadí mezi hlavní existenční hrozby lidské civilizace. Problematika proliferace a hrozba jejich možného použití je v současné době jedním z nejdiskutovanějších témat. Tato diplomová práce se zabývá diskuzí realismu a konstruktivismu v kontextu jaderné proliferace USA. Cílem práce je otestovat realistické a konstruktivistické proliferační přístupy, které nám pomáhají vysvětlit význam jaderných zbraní. Součástí analýzy je také formulovat tendence v oblasti vertikální proliferace USA a vymezit motivy, jež jsou stěžejní pro uplatňování jaderné politiky v daných obdobích amerických administrativ od roku 2001 až po současnost.

Abstract:

Nuclear weapons are among the major existential threats to human civilization. The issue of proliferation and the threat of their possible use is currently one of the most discussed topics. This diploma thesis deals with the discussion of realism and constructivism in the context of the US nuclear proliferation. The aim of the work is to test realistic and constructivist proliferative approaches that help us explain the importance of nuclear weapons. The analysis also formulates tendencies in vertical proliferation in the US and identifies motives that are central to the implementation of nuclear policy in given periods of the US administration from 2001 to the present.
