Hybrid learning in context of the rational choice theory

Abstract:

V souvislosti s pandemií Covid-19 se vysoké školy v České republice začínají přizpůsobovat trendu ze zahraničí a vytvářet více kurzů s hybridním průběhem. Dle zahraničních studií je jejich průběh a spokojenost studentů ovlivněna především technologickými faktory, organizací, časovou flexibilitou a náklady spojenými se zmiňovanými modely. Cílem práce proto byla identifikace konkrétních užitků a nákladů, které přináší studentům účast na hybridní výuce a konkrétní faktory, které jejich spokojenost s danou formou výuky ovlivňují. Zkoumání proběhlo prostřednictvím dotazníkového šetření na studentech FSE UJEP, kteří mají zkušenosti s účastí na hybridně vyučovaných kurzech. Výsledky byly zpracovány pomocí neparametrických testů a korelačních koeficientů, které odhalily závislosti mezi spokojeností a zmiňovanými faktory. Výsledky statistické analýzy odhalily, že studenti jsou s hybridní výukou spokojeni, dále že nejvíce působícím faktorem je technologický faktor. Mezi nejvýše hodnocené užitky patří získání časové flexibility, dostupnosti a pohodlí. Z nákladů, které se během výuky vyskytly nesmí být opomenuta zhoršená komunikace mezi studenty, ztráta pocitu sounáležitosti anebo časté nabytí pocitu hněvu, zmatenosti a bezmoci. Preference studentů vůči dalším hybridně vyučovaným kurzům jsou závislé na modelu. Obecně jsou spokojenější a mají vyšší preference vůči dalším hybridním modelům studenti, kteří mají zkušenost s asynchronní hybridní výukou (AHV). Výsledky práce mohou mít přínos především pro fakultu FSE UJEP a její vyučující při modifikaci stávajících kurzů nebo tvorbě nových. Díky poznatkům je možné organizovat kurzy tak, aby bylo dosaženo získání kladně hodnocených benefitů (přínosů) a naopak zabráněno nabytí těch nejhůře hodnocených nákladů (obtíží). To, že fakulta vezme v potaz výzkumem prokázané skutečnosti při případné tvorbě nebo modifikaci kurzů může zajistit i vyšší spokojenost a preference vůči hybridním kurzům.

Abstract:

In connection with the Covid-19 pandemic, universities in the Czech Republic are beginning to adapt to the trend from abroad and create more courses with a hybrid course. According to foreign studies, their course and students' satisfaction is mainly influenced by technological factors, organization, time flexibility and costs associated with the mentioned models. Therefore, the aim of the work was to identify the specific benefits and costs that participation in hybrid education brings to students and specific factors that influence their satisfaction with the given form of education. The research was conducted through a questionnaire survey of FSE UJEP students who have experience of participating in hybrid taught courses. The results were processed using non-parametric tests and correlation coefficients, which revealed dependencies between satisfaction and the mentioned factors. The results of the statistical analysis revealed that students are satisfied with hybrid teaching, and that the most influencing factor is the technological factor. The most highly rated benefits include gaining time flexibility, availability and convenience. Among the costs that occurred during teaching, the impaired communication between students, the loss of a sense of belonging, or the frequent acquisition of a feeling of anger, confusion and helplessness must not be omitted. Student preferences for other hybrid-taught courses are model-dependent. In general, students who have experience with asynchronous hybrid learning (AHV) are more satisfied and have a higher preference for other hybrid models. The results of the work can be beneficial especially for the FSE UJEP faculty and its teachers when modifying existing courses or creating new ones. Thanks to the knowledge, it is possible to organize the course in such a way as to achieve the acquisition of positively evaluated benefits (benefits) and, conversely, to prevent the acquisition of the worst evaluated costs (difficulties). The fact that the faculty takes into account facts proven by research when creating or modifying courses can also ensure higher satisfaction and preferences towards hybrid courses.
