Bank fee policy

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá poplatkovou politikou bank, a to převážně z hlediska výnosových poplatků v kontextu bankovních výnosů. Poplatky na úrovni jednotlivých produktů a sazebníků jsou v práci analyzovány v menší míře. K tomu využívá metod popisu, dedukce, srovnání a analýzy včetně lineárně regresní analýzy statistickým softwarem. V první části se zabývá strukturou českého bankovního sektoru a klasifikuje banky do skupin. Nastiňuje výhody, nevýhody a manévrovací možnosti bank v rámci poplatkové politiky. Zároveň podává přehled o tom, jak jednotliví autoři nahlížejí na vliv poplatkových výnosů v rámci hospodaření bank se zaměřením na diverzifikaci. V dalších částech se zaměřuje na historii a trendy v poplatkové politice, přičemž jako nejvýraznějším trendem posledních let se zabývá nízkopoplatkovými bankami. V návaznosti na to popisuje, jak měřit náklady na poplatky z hlediska klienta a jakým způsobem reagují různé skupiny klientů na změny ve výši poplatků. Okrajově je v práci provedeno také porovnání poplatkové politiky českých bank se zahraničními. V dalších částech je navázáno na klasifikaci bank z první kapitoly a využitím poměrových ukazatelů jsou analyzovány rozdílnosti poplatkové politiky mezi jednotlivými typy bank. K tomu je využit dataset 37 českých a slovenských bank. Rovněž je na teoretickém příkladu kvantifikováno, jaké dopady na rizikovost může mít diverzifikace poplatkovými výnosy. V poslední části je analýza poplatkových výnosů doplněna o statistický aspekt a s využitím lineárně regresní metody nejmenších čtverců jsou kvantifikovány některé stanovené hypotézy.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is a bank fee policy analysis mostly in terms of fee income which is analysed in context of bank total revenues. Analysis of a fee policy at bank product or fee rate level is a minor topic. For this purpose, the methods of description, deduction, comparison and analysis including linear regression analysis by statistical software are used. The first part od thesis deals with the structure of Czech banking system and classifies banks into groups. The advantages, disadvantages and maneuvring possibilities of fee policy are also pointed out. The thesis gives an overview of other authors‘ point of view about fee revenues in context of bank businesses with focus on income diversification. In the next parts, the thesis describes the history and trends in fee policy, while it deals with low-fee banks as the most significant trend over the last few years in the Czech republic. Following that, it describes fee expenses from clients‘ point of view and analyses how various client profiles react to changes in fee policy. Marginally, comparison of Czech and foreign countries‘ fee policy is made. In the next part, the bank classification from chapter one is followed and analysis of different bank business models fee policy is conducted. For this purpose, a dataset of 37 Czech and Slovak banks is used. Using a theoretical example, a calculation of diversification impacts of fee revenues is made as well. In the last part, the analysis of fee revenues determinants is supported by statistical calculations using Ordinary least squares method of linear regression and some established hypotheses are quantified.
