Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá statusem lidského embrya v soudobé západní společnosti. V souvislosti s rozvojem moderních reprodukčních technologií se embryo stále častěji stává předmětem debat ohledně začátku lidského života. This thesis deals with status of the human embryo in contemporary western society. As the modern reproductive technologies are emerging, embryo becomes a subject of debates regarding beginning of human life. The process of becoming human person is here perceived as Arnold VanGennep´s (1997) rite de passage and the liminal period developed by Victor Turner (1967, 2004) is stressed.
