Tranzit as a dynamic interdisciplinary platform for contemporary art in Central Europe. Emergence and institutional practise of Czech tranzitdisplay branch

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on the emergence, function and importance of the Czech tranzitdisplay branch, which was established by the cooperation of the two partners, the international organization „tranzit“ and the Prague independent gallery „Display“. This cooperative platform for contemporary art forms a network of autonomous cultural institutions, along with other tranzit branches in Slovakia, Austria, Hungary and Romania. The origin of this initiative dates back to the beginning of the second milennium, when its first branches started to emerge. In addition to tranzitdisplay’s approach as a specific Czech institutional model, the thesis offers a broader perspective of the post-revolution development of the Czech art scene and the institutional infrastructure which changed fundamentally after the fall of the communist regime in the 1989 and initiated the emergence of this international tranzit platform.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca mapuje vznik, pôsobenie a význam českej pobočky tranzitdisplay, ktorá bola založená na základe spolupráce dvoch partnerov, medzinárodnej organizácie tranzit a pražskej nezávislej galérie Display. Táto spoločná platforma pre súčasné umenie tvorí s ďalšími tranzitmi na Slovensku, v Rakúsku, Maďarsku a Rumunsku sieť autonómnych kultúrnych inštitúcií. Vznik tejto iniciatívy siaha na začiatok druhého tisícročia, kedy začali vznikať jej prvé pobočky. Okrem priblíženia tranzitdisplayu ako konkrétneho českého inštitucionálneho modelu je cieľom ponúknuť aj širší pohľad na porevolučný vývoj českej výtvarnej scény a inšitucionálnej infraštruktúry, ktorá sa pádom komunistického režimu v roku 1989 zásadne premenila a podnietila vznik tejto medzinárodnej platformy.
