Rating as a Method of Assessment of Financial Health of Insurance Company

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá možnostmi využití ratingu v pojišťovnictví v rámci kontroly finančního zdraví pojišťovny. V úvodu práce je vymezen pojem rating a finanční zdraví pojišťovny, následně je zde provedeno srovnání ratingu s ostatními hodnotícími metodami. Dále je řešena problematika ratingového procesu a ratignové typologie používané jednotlivými ratingovými agenturami. V rámci analýzy významu a využití ratingu pro oblast pojišťovnictví se práce zabývá jejími jednotlivými subjekty, včetně dozoru nad pojišťovnictvím. Pozornost je věnována zejména metodám, které jednotlivé ratingové agentury používají k vytváření ratingu finanční síly pojišťovny. Modelový příklad ratingu hypotetické neživotní pojišťovny slouží k lepšímu pochopení jednotlivých souvislostí ratingového procesu a je zakončen shrnutím získaných poznatků.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the possibilities of use of rating in insurance industry under the terms of financial health control of an insurance company. In the introduction, the terms rating and financial health of insurance are defined and then the comparison of rating with other rating methods is carried out. After that I deal with the problems of rating process and rating typology used by individual rating agencies. Under the terms of analyses of the purpose and use of rating for insurance, the work deals with individual subjects including supervision over insurance companies. Close attention is paid especially to methods which are used by individual rating agencies for creating a financial strength rating. A model example of a hypothetical property-casualty insurance company rating serves for a better understanding of individual connections of the rating process and is ended by summarizing the obtained information.
